Field hunting North Dakota waterfowl during the late season in a picked corn field just west of Devils Lake. Mixed bag of ross geese, snow geese, mallards and Canada geese over field decoys. Hunting with longtime friend and waterfowl guide Rick Darling. Used a large spread of full body decoys, spinning wing and motion decoys and an A frame blind for concealment.
Insane diver duck hunting action on the famed Manitoba marshes. Variety of divers including ringbills, bluebills, red heads and buffleheads. Fast action where the diver ducks were strafing the decoys at high speed. Interesting and humiliating shooting. The coolest aspect of this hunt besides the sheer number of birds was the fact that we were able to hunt over hand carved wooden and cork decoys. Felt like a market gunning experience. We used small skiffs and mud motors to access the marsh. We were hunting with Birdtail Outfitters located in Manitoba, Canada.
Late season pheasant hunt South of Watertown, South Dakota. Hunting with Sioux River Hunt Club. Unusually wet fall, so many of the crops were still standing but we found good numbers of pheasants around good cover. We saw hundreds of birds each day with many that got up wild but enough roosters held tight for the dogs to provide really enjoyable hunting. Great camaraderie and great dog work. This video is a snapshot of the type of pheasant hunting that has made South Dakota famous.

The edge of the Canadian Bush where agriculture fields meet the boreal forest. A major migration of birds follows this edge, and many ducks are also hatched in this region of Canada.

We harvested ten different species of ducks which is one of the most enjoyable aspects of hunting this region over water spreads. Fast paced action that doesnt take very many decoys.
Field hunting late season mallards in the corn near Devils Lake, North Dakota. When cold temperatures freeze up many of the small shallow lakes, ducks get concentrated on what open water is left where they often field feed in combined corn fields. Field hunting mallards over corn is a late season waterfowl opportunity coveted by many hunters.
Late season pheasant hunting near the small community of Cresbard, South Dakota. Wide open fields of CRP, slough edges and tree plantings combine with food plots and field edges for perfect pheasant habitat. South Dakota remains one of the very best states for pheasant hunting and this region in particular has high bird numbers.
Manitoba sandhill crane hunting over decoys. Sandhill cranes are wary with excellent eyesight. We hunted the agricultural fields of western Manitoba with Michitoba Outfitters. Large realistic decoy spreads are used to decoy cranes. Hunting sandhill cranes is perhaps one of waterfowl hunting's greatest challenges.
Early season Canada goose hunting in northern Minnesota with Willow Ridge Outfitters. Guides share tips on concealment, using small spreads and calling for hunting early season geese. Under the radar region north of Bemidji, Minnesota where there is a booming population of giant Canada geese. The terrain is a mix of swampland, hard woods and agriculture with many small lakes in the region that serve as roosts. Area has a high population of resident giant Canada geese along with an impressive molt migration.
